Teora comes from the Māori words “Te Ora,” meaning “the life” or “the vitality.” In Māori culture, ora represents more than just living – it reflects well-being, connection, and growth.
At Teora, this meaning is at the heart of who we are. We believe that every life is full of potential and beauty.
We celebrate individuals of all abilities, providing a supportive space where everyone can explore their potential, express their creativity, and build meaningful connections. Our mission is to nurture confidence, joy, and independence in every experience, honoring each person’s unique journey.
Teora – where every life thrives.
About the Founder
Meet Neha — Sister, Advocate, and Founder
My name is Neha, and I’m the founder of Teora. This journey began not as a project, but as something deeply personal. Growing up with a brother who has developmental challenges has been one of the most shaping experiences of my life. He is not just my brother—he’s my inspiration, my teacher, and the reason I believe so strongly in the power of community and inclusion. As he got older, I began to notice a gap in resources and opportunities for adults like him. After high school, many individuals with developmental differences find themselves with limited options—socially, professionally, and emotionally. That transition can be isolating and uncertain, not just for them, but also for their families. I knew something needed to change.
That’s why I started Teora. My vision was simple: to create a supportive and vibrant environment where adults with developmental disabilities could thrive, learn new skills, make meaningful connections, and live with dignity and joy. A place that honors their individuality and helps them continue to grow—not just exist.
This nonprofit is a reflection of my love for my brother, my commitment to families like ours, and my belief that everyone deserves a chance to shine, no matter their ability. Every program we build, every event we plan, and every step we take is guided by that passion.
Our first event at the SARC Holiday Fair was a proud and meaningful milestone for Teora. Individuals with diverse abilities created handmade crafts including bracelets, keychains, seed-paper pens, and bookmarks through guided craft sessions. Each item was made with care, creativity, and purpose, helping build fine motor skills, confidence, and a sense of accomplishment.
Teora participated in the Norwood School Holiday Fair, where many handcrafted items—including bracelets, keychains, beaded pens, and more—were proudly sold. The event reflected strong community support and highlighted the creativity and talents of our makers.
Teora proudly participated in the Infuse Year-End Gala, where we had a successful sale of our handcrafted items and received generous donations. Every purchase and contribution directly supports individuals with diverse abilities through empowerment, creativity, and meaningful opportunities. We are grateful to Infuse and everyone who supported our mission.
Our nonprofit is dedicated to empowering adults with developmental differences by creating inclusive opportunities for skill-building, purposeful work, and meaningful social connection. We envision a world where every individual, regardless of ability, is valued, supported, and given the tools to thrive with dignity and independence.
Guided by our core values of inclusion, compassion, empowerment, and respect, we strive to build a compassionate community where every person is seen for their potential and not their limitations. Through our programs, we aim to nurture both personal growth and a more understanding, sustainable society for all.
Hands-On Science
At Teora we believe that learning never stops—and that science can be fun, hands-on, and accessible to everyone. Our Science Exploration Program is designed to spark curiosity and creativity in adults with developmental differences through simple, safe, and engaging experiments.
These small science projects help participants discover how the world works while building confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Each activity is adapted to individual abilities, encouraging participation at every level.
VerdePen Project
The VerdePen Project is a unique, hands-on activity where adults with developmental differences create eco-friendly paper pens that have a small seed capsule inside. After the pen is used, it can be planted in soil to grow into a herb, flower, or vegetable—turning everyday writing into an act of sustainability.
This project is more than just about recycling—it’s about creativity, inclusion, and environmental impact. Every pen is handmade with care by our participants, giving them a sense of purpose, pride, and connection to nature.
Crafted Connections
Beautifully handcrafted by our clients, each item is unique and made with care. Every purchase supports their growth and independence. 100% of the profit returns to our clients, ensuring they receive full recognition and benefit from their hard work. These activities help improve fine motor skills, coordination, focus, and patience. They also create opportunities for social interaction, teamwork, and communication—making each crafting session both therapeutic and enjoyable.
